In a significant counter-terror success, the Delhi Police Special Cell, in coordination with central intelligence agencies, has arrested a suspected operative of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) near the Delhi border. The accused has been identified as Shabbir Ahmad Lone, who is also known by the aliases Raja and Kashmiri.
Officials revealed that Lone, a resident of Kangan in the Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district, was allegedly orchestrating terror activities targeting India while based in Bangladesh. He had been under long-term surveillance for his suspected role in facilitating cross-border terror operations, coordinating networks, and potentially directing attacks against Indian cities.
“This arrest marks a major breakthrough in disrupting transnational terror networks,” said a senior police official. “The accused was linked to activities aimed at reviving dormant terror modules within India through handlers operating abroad. Such networks rely on overseas operatives to provide funding, intelligence, and operational guidance.”
Investigations are now focusing on Lone’s contacts and communication channels. Authorities are working to map his network, uncover funding sources, and determine if any attacks were being planned on Indian soil. The interrogation is expected to provide valuable intelligence on the functioning of LeT’s cross-border operations, including recruitment patterns and logistical support systems.
Security agencies noted that the arrest comes amid heightened vigilance against terror organizations attempting to exploit regional instability. The operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-sharing and coordinated efforts between the Delhi Police Special Cell, central agencies, and local law enforcement.
The incident has also renewed attention on the threat posed by transnational terror outfits, which often rely on operatives in neighboring countries to plan and facilitate attacks. Experts say that sustained surveillance, timely action, and community cooperation are crucial in preempting such threats.
Officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that national security depends on both proactive policing and public awareness. The arrest of Shabbir Ahmad Lone is being hailed as a critical step in India’s ongoing fight against terrorism, sending a strong message to cross-border terror networks that attempts to infiltrate or destabilize Indian cities will be met with swift action.
