BCCI Issues Notice to Rajasthan Royals Team Manager Over Anti-Corruption Protocol Breach
Mumbai — The BCCI has reportedly issued a notice to Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder after an alleged breach of anti-corruption protocol during an IPL 2026 match, according to reports.
The matter came under scrutiny after Bhinder was seen using his mobile phone while seated in the team dugout during Rajasthan Royals’ match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last Friday. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, sparked debate and prompted calls for action, including from former IPL chairman Lalit Modi.
BCCI Initiates Inquiry
Following the controversy, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has stepped in to investigate the matter. IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the matter has been referred to the ACSU for a detailed review.
“We have asked the ACSU to investigate and file a report on the incident,” Dhumal said.
As part of the process, Bhinder has reportedly been issued a notice and given 48 hours to respond with an explanation regarding his actions in the dugout.
Medical Context Behind the Incident
Reports suggest that Bhinder’s phone usage may be linked to ongoing medical issues. The RR team manager has previously faced serious health concerns, including a collapsed lung, and has also been dealing with asthma and significant weight loss due to illness.
Sources indicate that Bhinder is permitted to carry a mobile phone and laptop inside the dugout for medical reasons. However, while possession is allowed under protocol, active usage during matches remains restricted.
According to insiders, Bhinder was not making or receiving calls but was reportedly scrolling through his phone at the time of the incident.
Dugout Incident Sparks Debate
The incident drew additional attention as Bhinder was seated next to young Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the dugout when the video was recorded.
While some reports have pointed to procedural concerns, others have urged authorities to consider Bhinder’s medical condition before reaching a conclusion.
A source close to the franchise stated that Bhinder often has to walk a considerable distance between the dugout and dressing room, which may have contributed to the situation.
Investigation Ongoing
The ACSU is expected to review Bhinder’s response before deciding on further action. The incident has once again highlighted the strict nature of anti-corruption protocols in the IPL, where even minor procedural breaches are treated with seriousness to maintain the integrity of the tournament.
For now, the matter remains under investigation, with a final decision pending from the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit.
