The former India captain said he was not used to speaking at school events, but felt an immediate connection with the audience as he had once stood in the same position as a student himself.

Kohli began his speech on a light note, admitting his discomfort in addressing a school gathering.
“Thank you for having me. I’m not used to speaking in schools, so this is going to be a bit awkward for me,” he said, adding that he had left the school environment early to focus on cricket.
He explained that his priorities changed at a young age when he made the decision to fully commit to the sport.
“I chose sport very early on in my life… I had to be honest with myself, my family, and my teachers that this is the path I want to take,” he said.
“A School Is Where You Become Better People”
Kohli urged students to value their education and the environment they are part of, emphasizing respect for teachers and discipline in learning.
“A school is a place where you come to learn, you come to grow, you become better people,” he said.
He further highlighted the role of teachers in shaping lives, saying they dedicate a significant part of their lives to guiding students.
“Have respect and regard for that environment first. For your teachers… they are giving you a part of their lives,” he added.

“Be honest with your dreams, about what you want to do and follow that dream with absolute commitment,” he said.
He stressed that true success comes from internal discipline and clarity rather than external validation.
“Only you will know whether you are being 100% honest or not,” Kohli told the students.

Kohli also reflected on his long-standing relationship with the academy, recalling how he began training at a young age.
“I started practising when I was eight years old, and I still come here whenever I get time,” he said, expressing hope that the facility continues to shape young talent.

Meanwhile, Kohli recently achieved another landmark by becoming the first player to score 9,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The milestone came during a match for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
