The IPL 2026 clash between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad on Thursday produced not just competitive cricket, but also a viral on-field moment involving two of India’s most talked-about modern stars — Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.
A video circulating widely on social media shows Kohli reacting animatedly after taking a catch at extra cover, where he appeared to make a “snake” gesture toward Gill, who was returning to the dugout after his dismissal. The gesture immediately sparked fan debate, with many interpreting it as a playful jab aimed at the young GT skipper.
Gill, however, was not silent in response. Cameras later caught him pointing toward the scoreboard while sitting in the dugout — a moment fans quickly interpreted as a light-hearted counter to Kohli’s gesture, especially with Gujarat Titans firmly in control of the chase at that point.

Gill leads GT’s chase with explosive cameo
Chasing a modest target of 156 set by RCB, Gill played a defining role in Gujarat Titans’ comfortable approach to the game. The 25-year-old batter came out aggressively and smashed 43 off just 18 balls, effectively taking the game away in the powerplay itself.
Although RCB managed to stage a brief comeback and reduce GT to 111/5 at one stage, Gill’s early assault ensured the damage was already done. The defending champions were ultimately left with too little to defend.

Gill on his innings and team effort
Speaking after the match, Gill said he felt “in the zone” and confident enough to take on the bowlers from the start. He credited the bowlers for restricting RCB to under 160 and appreciated the team’s overall fielding effort, despite acknowledging minor lapses.
He also praised Rahul Tewatia for finishing the game under pressure, highlighting the importance of contributions from across the batting order.
“Feels very satisfying. On a wicket like this, restricting them to under 160 was a tremendous job by the bowlers. Our fielding was one of the things…in phases, we have not fielded well. Energy in the field was very nice,” Gill said.
On his own approach, he added, “I was just feeling I was in the zone. Felt it is my day and wanted to take the bowlers on.”
A rivalry building more personality than tension
While the on-field gestures sparked plenty of online chatter, the exchange between Kohli and Gill appeared largely playful, reflecting mutual competitiveness rather than genuine hostility.
