Mumbai — Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, describing her as an irreplaceable voice who has left behind an “encyclopedia of eternal music.”

Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital following multi-organ failure, bringing an end to a musical journey that spanned decades and defined generations of Indian cinema.

“The Body Has Left Us, But Her Soul Remains”

Bachchan, who visited her residence on the day of her passing to pay his final respects, later penned an emotional tribute on his blog, reflecting on the profound sense of loss.

“The body has left us… but her soul shall remain forever with us,” he wrote, adding that her versatility and ability to bring life to every song had now “gone to the heavens.”

He repeatedly emphasized his grief in the post, writing: “In immense grief… In immense grief,” underscoring the depth of his mourning.

He described her as a “phenomenal, astounding, prodigious presence” and said her legacy would endure through generations of listeners.

A Musical Legacy Shared With Bollywood

Asha Bhosle’s voice featured in numerous iconic songs from films starring Amitabh Bachchan, creating some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable musical moments.

Her hits include Pehle Pehle Pyaar Ki and Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani from The Great Gambler (1979), Janu Meri Jaan from Shaan (1980), as well as Dillagi Ne Di Hawa from Dostana, Bachke Rehna Re Baba from Pukar, and Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne from Kaalia.

Nation Pays Tribute

Following her passing, condolences have poured in from across the film industry, politics, music, and sports. Asha Bhosle’s body was taken to her Lower Parel residence, where admirers gathered to pay their respects. Her last rites are being conducted with full state honours, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expected to attend the funeral at Shivaji Park.

Prominent personalities including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, actor Tabu, veteran star Asha Parekh, and Anuradha Paudwal were among those who paid their final respects.

Asha Bhosle’s career remains one of the most celebrated in Indian music history. She received two National Film Awards, the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

Her unforgettable songs include Dum Maro Dum, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Chura Liya Hai Tumne, Yeh Mera Dil, and Dil Cheez Kya Hai, cementing her status as one of the most versatile and influential voices in Indian cinema.
