As Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood crises in recent years, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has reportedly stepped forward to help those affected. Known for his charitable work through his NGO Being Human, the actor has quietly begun a relief campaign aimed at providing immediate assistance to flood-hit families.
According to reports, Salman has joined hands with one of his fan clubs in Assam to carry out a phased relief operation, focusing on both emergency aid and long-term rehabilitation.
Food Distribution Begins
The first phase of the relief drive has already started, with volunteers distributing ready-to-eat food packets and essential supplies to people stranded in flood-affected areas.
The initiative is expected to expand over the coming weeks, providing ration kits and other daily necessities to families who have lost access to basic resources due to the floods.
Medical Supplies and Essential Kits
Beyond food, the campaign reportedly plans to distribute drinking water, medicines, sanitary napkins and mosquito repellent sprays to help prevent disease outbreaks in relief camps and flooded villages.
These supplies are expected to reach some of the worst-affected districts where thousands of families continue to struggle with damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods.
Support for Schools and Hospitals
The relief effort is also expected to move beyond emergency assistance. Reports suggest that Being Human plans to support the rebuilding of schools and hospitals damaged by the floods, helping communities recover once water levels recede.
The long-term rehabilitation initiative aims to restore essential public infrastructure that has been severely impacted by the disaster.
Assam Continues to Face a Major Crisis
The flood situation in Assam remains serious despite slight improvements in recent days. Lakhs of people across several districts have been affected, with hundreds of villages still submerged.
According to official figures, more than 4.45 lakh people remain affected across districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup Metropolitan. Although water levels have begun receding in some areas, the situation remains challenging for thousands of families.
The floods have claimed dozens of lives and caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, schools and public infrastructure.
Heavy Losses to Agriculture and Livestock
The disaster has also dealt a major blow to Assam’s agricultural sector. More than 37,000 hectares of farmland remain underwater, while over 2.5 lakh livestock have been affected. Thousands of animals have reportedly been washed away in the floods.
Hundreds of houses have been completely destroyed, while several thousand others have suffered partial damage. Schools in multiple districts have also been inundated, disrupting education for countless students.
Salman’s Quiet Humanitarian Effort
While several celebrities have used social media to raise awareness about the Assam floods, Salman Khan is among the few Bollywood stars reportedly supporting relief efforts on the ground.
If the planned phases of the campaign continue as expected, the initiative could provide much-needed relief to thousands of families while also contributing to the rebuilding of schools, hospitals and essential community infrastructure in the flood-hit state.
