Actor Prakash Raj has landed in fresh legal trouble after a Bengaluru court reportedly issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with a case involving the alleged possession of multiple voter ID cards. The development comes just days after the actor made headlines over his remarks related to the Dharmasthala controversy.
According to reports, the 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Bengaluru issued the warrant after Prakash Raj allegedly failed to appear before the court despite receiving repeated summons. The court observed that the actor neither appeared in person nor responded to the legal notices, prompting it to take stricter action.
The case dates back to 2019, when advocate Dileep Kumar filed a complaint at Bengaluru’s Halasuru Gate Police Station. The complaint alleged that Prakash Raj was registered as a voter in four states — Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Under Election Commission rules, an individual is allowed to have voter registration in only one constituency.
However, Prakash Raj had previously denied the allegations. The actor maintained that he votes only from Tamil Nadu and rejected claims that he possessed multiple voter IDs. Following the issuance of the warrant, his legal team is expected to move a higher court seeking relief, either through an urgent bail plea or by requesting a stay on the order.
The latest legal setback comes shortly after Prakash Raj’s name surfaced in connection with the ongoing Dharmasthala controversy. C.N. Chinnaiah, who made sensational allegations involving murders and rapes in the temple town, mentioned the actor’s name in a petition filed before the Karnataka High Court.
Addressing the issue recently, Prakash Raj clarified that activist Girish Mattannavar had informed him that Chinnaiah wanted to speak with him. The actor said that after receiving information, he immediately contacted Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief Pronab Mohanty and shared whatever details he had.
“So I am saying openly that he spoke to me. I immediately passed the information to the SIT chief. My responsibility ends there,” Prakash had said while interacting with the media.
Despite the controversies, Prakash Raj continues to remain busy professionally. He was recently seen in Kaalidas 2 in Tamil and Seetha Payanam, S Saraswati and Dacoit: A Love Story in Telugu. The versatile actor also has several major projects in the pipeline, including Drishyam 3 in Hindi, Spirit and Varanasi in Telugu, and Vijay’s much-awaited Tamil film Jana Nayagan.
With the court’s latest order, all eyes are now on the actor’s legal response and the next developments in the long-running case.
