Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal has opened up about one of the most shocking incidents of his life the firing outside his home in Vancouver, Canada, in 2023. Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Gippy revealed that he was completely unaware of why he had been targeted and said the incident came as a total surprise to him.
Recalling the frightening episode, Gippy said he had never received any threatening calls or warnings before the attack. According to him, there was nothing that indicated such an incident could happen. It was only after the firing that a social media post surfaced claiming responsibility and explaining the reason behind the attack.
The singer admitted that he was confused and shocked when he learned that his alleged association with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was being cited as the motive. Gippy clarified that while he had met Salman Khan on a few occasions during film promotions and events, they did not share a close personal friendship.
He explained that his interactions with Salman were largely professional and limited to appearances on television shows like Bigg Boss and a few film-related events. Despite this, those behind the threat appeared to believe that he had a much closer connection with the actor.
The incident drew widespread attention after a social media message allegedly linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the firing. The message described the attack as a warning and reportedly advised Punjabi artists to avoid associating with Salman Khan.
Reflecting on the situation, Gippy said he never imagined that simply being perceived as connected to someone could lead to such a serious incident. The experience left him stunned and raised concerns about the growing security threats faced by public figures.
The firing outside Gippy’s home was not an isolated case. In the years that followed, similar incidents were reported involving other celebrities. Punjabi singer AP Dhillon’s residence in Canada also reportedly came under attack after he released a music video featuring Salman Khan. Meanwhile, shots were fired outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence, Galaxy Apartments, further intensifying security concerns.
More recently, a shooting incident outside a gym owned by Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in Delhi once again highlighted the growing threat posed by organised criminal networks targeting celebrities. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Despite the trauma associated with the Vancouver attack, Gippy Grewal has continued to focus on his music and film career. His candid comments have once again brought attention to the challenges faced by entertainers who often find themselves caught in controversies and threats despite having no direct involvement in the matters surrounding them.
