Swara Bhasker Slams Body-Shaming Culture, Says “Women’s Bodies Have More Purpose Than Sexualisation”

Actor Swara Bhasker has once again sparked a strong conversation online after calling out internet trolls for commenting on her post-pregnancy body and weight changes.

Swara, who married political activist Fahad Ahmad in February 2023 and welcomed her daughter Raabiyaa in September the same year, shared a powerful Instagram post addressing the criticism she has faced since becoming a mother.

Sharing a collage of her pre- and post-pregnancy images, the actress opened up about the “rage and anger” directed at her over her changing body, making it clear that she has no intention of conforming to unrealistic expectations.

“I chose NOT TO BOUNCE BACK”

Swara wrote that she consciously chose not to “bounce back” after childbirth, emphasizing that motherhood brings permanent physical and emotional changes.

“After I had a baby… I chose NOT TO BOUNCE BACK. Because once you have a baby—there’s no back—you are a parent for the rest of your life,” she wrote, adding that expecting women to return to their pre-pregnancy bodies is an unfair and unrealistic demand.

She further noted that it is natural for bodies to change after pregnancy, as they go through conception, carrying, delivering, and nourishing a child.

Strong Message on Body Image Pressure

In her note, Swara also criticized the constant pressure on women to appear “desirable” for the camera and online audiences, calling postpartum body shaming both “unintelligent and nasty.”

“The constant pressure to look desirable for the camera or internet or strangers… this incessant shaming of women for carrying postpartum weight… it’s nobody’s business,” she wrote.

She clarified that her message is not against fitness or health, but against forcing women into outdated beauty standards.

“Women’s bodies have more purpose than sexualisation and being hangers for glamour,” she added, stressing the need to respect bodily autonomy and natural change.

Life After Motherhood

Swara also reflected on her journey into motherhood, previously announcing the birth of her daughter Raabiyaa with an emotional message calling it a “prayer heard” and a “blessing granted.”

Since then, she has occasionally shared insights into her personal life, often speaking candidly about societal expectations placed on women after childbirth.

A Broader Conversation

Swara’s statement has reignited discussions around postpartum body image, online trolling, and unrealistic beauty standards faced by women in public life. Her post continues to draw mixed reactions, with many supporting her stance against body shaming.
