Raja Shivaji and The Devil Wears Prada 2 Get Post-Midnight Shows in Mumbai Amid Strong Audience Demand
Two major theatrical releases—Raja Shivaji and The Devil Wears Prada 2—are witnessing strong audience turnout, prompting exhibitors in Maharashtra to introduce post-midnight screenings due to overwhelming demand.
Late-night shows added in Mumbai
Following positive word of mouth and steady box office performance, theatres across Mumbai have scheduled 1 AM and 2 AM shows for the weekend (May 2 and May 3). The move comes as cinemas attempt to accommodate high footfall despite limited screen availability.
For The Devil Wears Prada 2, several late-night screenings have been added across major multiplexes. At PVR Oberoi Mall, a 1:20 AM show has been scheduled, while PVR C&B Square will host a 1:10 AM screening. Additional shows at 1:20 AM and 1:40 AM have also been planned at select theatres across the city.

Meanwhile, Raja Shivaji is also receiving similar treatment, with the MovieMax chain leading the initiative. The film will have screenings starting from 12:55 AM and going up to 2:20 AM in Mumbai. Similar late-night programming is expected to expand across other centres in Maharashtra over the weekend.

An exhibition source noted that the decision was driven by strong demand and capacity constraints:
“There’s crazy demand for these two films. However, as there are too many releases, these films are facing capacity issues. Hence, exhibitors have decided to play shows after 12:00 am since the demand is there.”
Box office performance
Raja Shivaji has opened strongly at the box office, collecting approximately ₹11.35 crore on Day 1 across 6,192 shows in India. The film performed particularly well in the Marathi market, earning around ₹8 crore, while the Hindi version contributed ₹3.35 crore.
On the other hand, The Devil Wears Prada 2 registered a comparatively modest India opening of ₹3.8 crore nett, bringing its combined total (including previews) to around ₹5.5 crore. Despite the lower domestic figures, the film has shown stronger traction in overseas markets.
Growing weekend momentum
With increased occupancy and extended show timings, both films are expected to see improved weekend performance. The addition of post-midnight screenings highlights strong urban demand, especially in Mumbai’s multiplex circuit, where audience interest continues to drive unconventional show scheduling.
If momentum continues, exhibitors may further expand late-night programming across other key cities in Maharashtra.
