Yuvraj Singh Apologises to MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev Over Father Yograj Singh’s Controversial Remarks
Former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh has publicly apologised to cricket legends MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev for the controversial remarks made by his father, Yograj Singh, calling the comments “unacceptable” and emphasising his respect for the iconic players.
Yograj Singh has, over the years, made several critical comments about Dhoni and Kapil Dev, at times dragging Yuvraj into the controversy. In a recent interview with SportsTak, Yuvraj addressed the issue, saying he has spoken to his father about the matter and stressed that such statements were inappropriate.
“I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni for these comments,” Yuvraj said. “I told dad, it’s not okay.”
Yograj’s remarks included blaming Dhoni for allegedly ruining the final phase of Yuvraj’s career and criticising Kapil Dev for dropping him from the team “for no reason.” Yuvraj made it clear that these words do not represent him.
“Kapil was a great player and captain for India. I have played with MS Dhoni and have always expressed my relationship with him. But what my dad has said about him — I told him, ‘it’s not okay.’ It reflects on me as I have played with him,” Yuvraj added.
He further clarified that he has conveyed to his father that such comments are unwelcome and reiterated his admiration for both cricket legends. “I sincerely would like to apologise to both of them. They also know that those words are not mine. As cricketers, I have huge respect for them for whatever they have done for the country,” he said.
Yuvraj also reflected on his evolving relationship with his father. The former duo, who once had a coach-player dynamic, now interact more as father and son. “We now try to interact more as father and son, rather than the earlier dynamic of coach and ward. It’s an interesting phase in my life,” he said.
“We discuss a lot about past and present cricketers and often argue — but it’s all in good humour,” Yuvraj added, highlighting the bond they are now building while navigating differences in opinion.
This statement from Yuvraj Singh underscores his commitment to respecting cricketing legends while balancing personal and familial dynamics in the public eye.
