Mumbai-Pune Expressway Faces Massive Traffic Jam Amid Ram Navami Holiday Rush
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway experienced severe congestion on Thursday, March 26, as a surge of holiday travellers for Ram Navami overwhelmed one of Maharashtra’s busiest highways. Visuals from the Bhorghat stretch showed bumper-to-bumper traffic extending over five kilometres, leaving commuters stranded and significantly delaying travel between Mumbai and Pune.
Authorities attributed the gridlock to a combination of heavy festive travel and consecutive holidays, with thousands of people heading to pilgrimage sites and weekend destinations. Vehicles crawled slowly through the ghat section, as highway police worked to regulate traffic flow and ease the congestion.
This incident highlights the recurring bottlenecks on the critical corridor during peak travel periods, particularly during festivals and long weekends. Commuters are advised to plan travel accordingly, consider alternative routes, and stay updated on traffic alerts to avoid long delays.
With the summer season approaching and multiple holidays lined up, authorities are expected to increase patrolling and management measures to ensure smoother travel along the expressway.
