Karan Johar Urges Media to Avoid Clickbait, Calls for Responsible Reporting
Filmmaker Karan Johar has spoken out against misleading headlines, urging media outlets to exercise greater responsibility when reporting on interviews. His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about actors including Janhvi Kapoor moving on from his talent management arm, Dharma Cornerstone Artist Company.
A Call Against Misrepresentation

Taking to Instagram Stories, Johar expressed concern over how snippets from interviews are often taken out of context and turned into sensational headlines. While he acknowledged that artists willingly participate in interviews and podcasts, he emphasized that selective quoting can distort the original intent.
“I want to politely speak of clickbait headlines… Lots of us give interviews and podcasts and we are happy to do so… but to take a line from an interview and quote it out of context is just clickbait and makes one wary of speaking at all…” he wrote.
A “Humble Request” for Integrity
Johar described his message as a “humble request” to the media, urging them not to twist statements for attention-grabbing narratives. He highlighted how such practices can make comments appear personal, offensive, or sensational even when they were made with a different context and intention.
“This is a humble request to NOT quote a line that twists the relevance of the statement made with integrity as opposed to sounding personal, offensive or sensational,” he added.

Context Behind the Controversy
The filmmaker’s clarification came after his earlier remarks about actors switching talent agencies sparked widespread discussion online. Johar had spoken about the evolving dynamics of the entertainment industry, noting how social media pressures and changing professional needs often influence such decisions.
However, he made it clear that his comments were not aimed at any individual or meant to stir controversy. Instead, his intention was to highlight a broader industry trend while encouraging more nuanced and accurate reporting.
Advocating Thoughtful Conversations
Johar’s appeal underscores a growing concern among public figures about the impact of clickbait culture on meaningful dialogue. By urging journalists to preserve context, he hopes to foster an environment where artists feel comfortable sharing honest insights without fear of misinterpretation.
In an era driven by viral headlines, Johar’s message serves as a reminder that responsible storytelling and context remain crucial to maintaining credibility in media.
