Old Uzair Baloch Interview Resurfaces After Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Internet Reacts

The blockbuster success of Dhurandhar: The Revenge has not only dominated box office charts but also reignited public interest in real-life events and figures that inspired its narrative. Among these, one of the most-discussed resurfaces is a decade-old interview with Uzair Baloch, the infamous Lyari gang leader, in which he claimed he “hasn’t even killed an ant.”

A Viral Flashback

Originally conducted in 2012 by journalist Noor-ul-Arifeen, the interview has resurfaced online following the Dhurandhar 2 release. Viewers have been dissecting every statement, weighing his claims of innocence against his documented history of violence.

Contrasts of Wealth and Power

Lyari, a Karachi neighbourhood long associated with poverty and gang wars, stood in stark contrast to Baloch’s lifestyle. During the interview, Baloch described himself as a transporter with land and business interests, including an extractor business in Dubai.

“I am with them through every pain and suffering — whether it is hunger, water issues, progress, unemployment or any other problem,” he said, framing himself as both a beneficiary and benefactor to the local community.

The “I Haven’t Even Killed An Ant” Claim

Perhaps the most striking moment came when Baloch addressed allegations of violence:
“I haven’t even killed an ant. I have killed for public unemployment — I raised my voice, that was my ‘murder’.”

The statement directly contradicts widely reported incidents, including the gruesome killing of rival gangster Arshad Pappu, which local accounts describe as one of Lyari’s most brutal episodes. Eyewitnesses claimed Pappu’s body was mutilated, with reports even suggesting his severed head was used to instill fear.

Internet Reacts

The resurfaced clips have sparked strong reactions online, with many users expressing shock and questioning the courage of the journalist who conducted the interview years ago. Comments like “Is the interviewer still alive?” and “The courage it took to ask these questions is unreal” have circulated widely.

Uzair Baloch: The Man Behind the Headlines

Baloch rose to power after the death of his brother, Rehman Dakait, consolidating control over the Lyari gang and eventually taking charge of the People’s Aman Committee, a politically influential local group with links to the Pakistan Peoples Party.

By 2014, he faced over 50 cases of extortion and was implicated in multiple killings, including police personnel and rival gang members. He fled Pakistan but was arrested by Interpol in Dubai the same year and extradited back to Pakistan. In 2020, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and lodged in Karachi Central Jail, though he was recently acquitted in a 2012 arms case due to lack of evidence.

From Real Life to Reel Life

Baloch’s story also inspired a storyline in Dhurandhar: The Revenge. In the film, Ranveer Singh’s undercover operative Hamza kills Rehman Dakait, while Uzair, portrayed by Danish Pandor, arrives too late and breaks down, unaware that Hamza is responsible for his brother’s death. The sequence serves as a bridge to the sequel, cementing Uzair Baloch’s role as a central figure in the cinematic universe of Dhurandhar.

A Story of Contradictions

The resurfaced interview highlights the contradictions that defined Uzair Baloch: a man who portrayed himself as a protector and benefactor, yet whose name is tied to some of Karachi’s most violent episodes. With Dhurandhar 2 drawing renewed attention to these events, audiences are re-examining the blurred lines between real-life notoriety and cinematic storytelling.
