Karan Johar has finally put an end to years of speculation surrounding a sequel to his iconic film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. In a recent conversation with Sonal Kalra for The Right Angle, the filmmaker made it unequivocally clear—there is no K3G 2 in the works.
No sequel, no revival
Addressing the long-standing rumours, Karan stated that neither a sequel to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham nor a revival of his ambitious historical project Takht is currently planned. He emphasized that the decision is intentional, rooted in his desire to preserve the emotional legacy of the beloved family drama.
Protecting nostalgia
Reflecting on the enduring popularity of K3G, Karan acknowledged that while no film is perfect, this one holds a special place in audiences’ hearts because of its nostalgia. He expressed deep gratitude for having created a film that continues to resonate across generations.
However, he firmly believes that revisiting it could do more harm than good. According to him, attempting a sequel would risk diluting the emotional connection fans have with the original. Rather than trying to recreate that magic, he prefers to let the film remain untouched, exactly as audiences remember it.
The future of Takht
While dismissing any immediate plans, Karan did offer a glimpse of hope for Takht. The ambitious period drama, which had been shelved earlier, remains a passion project for him. He shared that he is determined to bring it to life someday, when the timing feels right.
