Some films never grow old, and Lagaan is one of them. As the iconic movie prepares to complete 25 years, Aamir Khan came together with director Ashutosh Gowariker and several members of the original cast for a heartwarming reunion that left fans feeling nostalgic.
Videos and pictures from the special gathering quickly went viral on social media, showing the cast celebrating the journey of a film that changed the face of Indian cinema. Sharing moments from the event, the makers wrote, “Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker reunite with the Lagaan cast after 25 years.”
Several actors who played memorable roles in the film attended the reunion, including Suhasini Mulay, Akhilendra Mishra, Yashpal Sharma, Raj Zutshi, Paul Blackthorne, Aditya Lakhia and Dayashankar Pandey. Seeing the cast together after more than two decades brought back memories of one of Bollywood’s most loved classics.
The celebration was also a family affair for Aamir Khan. His former wife and Lagaan executive producer Reena Dutta attended the event along with their daughter, Ira Khan. Ira shared an emotional post on social media, expressing her pride in her mother for backing such a landmark film.
“My mamma made a beautiful film,” Ira wrote as she cheered for Reena Dutta when her name appeared on the screen during the special event.

Adding to the celebrations, Lagaan has also returned to theatres, giving fans an opportunity to relive the magic on the big screen once again.
Released in 2001, Lagaan was set in 1893 during the British Raj and told the inspiring story of the villagers of Champaner. Facing heavy taxes and a severe drought, they accept an unusual challenge from a British officer — a game of cricket. If they win, their taxes will be cancelled for three years. If they lose, they will have to pay three times the amount.
The film featured a stellar cast led by Aamir Khan, alongside Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne, Suhasini Mulay, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raghubir Yadav, Rajendra Gupta, Rajesh Vivek and Yashpal Sharma.
One of the biggest highlights of Lagaan was its unforgettable music by A.R. Rahman. Songs like Ghanan Ghanan, Mitwa, Radha Kaise Na Jale and O Rey Chhori remain fan favourites even today and continue to be celebrated by music lovers.
The film was not only a huge success in India but also earned worldwide recognition. Lagaan became only the third Indian film to receive an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category, bringing global attention to Indian storytelling.
It also won several prestigious honours, including eight awards at the National Film Awards, and is still regarded as one of the finest sports dramas ever made in Bollywood.
Twenty-five years later, the reunion of the Lagaan family is a reminder of the film’s lasting legacy. More than just a movie about cricket, it became a story of courage, unity and hope that continues to inspire audiences across generations.
