Kangana Ranaut is all set to make a powerful comeback to the Lock Upp universe—but this time, in a brand-new role.
The actor, who hosted the first season of Lock Upp in 2022, will appear in Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa as the special guest ‘Janta Ki Awaaz’ during the upcoming weekend episode. Her return comes just days after the reality show premiered on Netflix with Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh taking over as the new hosts.
Kangana’s entry is expected to add a fresh twist to the competition as the show gears up for its first termination. As the “Janta Ki Awaaz,” she will represent the voice of the audience and play an important role in judging the inmates’ actions and decisions inside the jail.
Sharing her excitement about returning to the show, Kangana said, “This show has always been about owning your truth, no matter how uncomfortable it is. Joining Farah and Riteish as the jury, or the ‘Janta Ki Awaaz,’ for the very first termination, all I can say is—every choice has a price.”
While the makers have kept the details of her appearance under wraps, viewers are eager to see whether Kangana will offer support to the contestants or deliver some tough verdicts that could change the course of the game.
Why Kangana isn’t the host this season
When Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa was launched in Mumbai, producer Ektaa Kapoor explained why Kangana did not return as the host for Season 2.
According to Ektaa, the show has undergone a complete transformation, with a new format and a fresh creative vision.
“The entire format and vision of the show have changed. We wanted a completely new presentation, so nothing from the original version has been retained—not the host, not the jailer. Keeping the old format wouldn’t have matched the new branding, and I’m sure Kangana understands that,” Ektaa said.
Despite not hosting the show, Kangana’s return as a special guest is expected to bring back the intensity and fearless attitude that made the first season memorable.
About the new season
Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa features 15 celebrity contestants living together in a high-pressure jail-like environment, completely cut off from the outside world. Throughout the six-week competition, they face challenging tasks, shifting alliances, punishments and eliminations, with every decision affecting their survival in the game.
This season’s contestants include Sunita Ahuja, Ram Kapoor, Shivangi Joshi, Akanksha Choudhary, Harshad Chopda, Yogesh Rawat, Riyaz Ali, Dheeraj Dhoopar, Shreya Kalra, Akanksha Chamola, Sreshta Iyer and Sufi Motiwala, among others.
Co-produced by Balaji Telefilms and Colosceum, Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa began streaming on Netflix on June 27 and airs every Saturday to Wednesday at 8 PM.
