Varun Dhawan Reveals He Wanted a Hollywood Debut to Surprise Father David Dhawan

Actor Varun Dhawan recently opened up about his early ambitions, revealing that before making his Bollywood debut, he had an entirely different plan—he wanted to start his acting career in Hollywood. The revelation highlights the actor’s determination to carve his own path and impress his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, in an unconventional way.

Speaking about his early career aspirations, Varun shared, “My mother told me that your father is never going to launch you because he has never launched anyone and he will only work with you when he feels you have become a star.” Motivated by this, he focused on honing his craft independently and enrolled in multiple acting classes.

He added, “I enrolled in various acting classes. In fact, my plan was to debut in Hollywood to show my father. I wanted that either Steven Spielberg or Anurag Kashyap should launch me. Papa ko jhatka sirf in dono cheez se lag sakta hai (my father would have been shocked only by these two things). But he was also shocked when Karan launched me.”

Ultimately, Varun made his Bollywood debut with Student of the Year, directed by Karan Johar, which became a stepping stone to his successful career. However, his initial ambition to break into Hollywood first reflects the drive, creativity, and independent spirit that he carried even before entering the Indian film industry.

Varun Dhawan’s story serves as a reminder that even established stars often nurture bold dreams and unconventional plans, pushing boundaries before finding their place in the limelight.
