Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Fielding Absence Sparks Explanation From RR Coach Amid IPL 2026 Clash
Young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to grab attention in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, both for his explosive batting and his growing importance to the Rajasthan Royals lineup.
The 15-year-old prodigy, who has already established himself as one of the season’s standout performers, has been in sensational form with scores of 52, 31, 39, and 78 in the first four matches of the season. His rapid-fire batting, including two blistering 15-ball half-centuries, has made him one of the most talked-about young talents in the league.
However, in Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Suryavanshi was deployed only as an Impact Player and did not take the field. The decision sparked curiosity among fans, especially given his usual high-energy presence on the field.
Addressing the situation during the match broadcast on Star Sports, RR assistant coach Trevor Penney explained the reasoning behind the call. He revealed that while the youngster was eager to contribute in the field, team combination requirements led to the decision.
“The last game he missed out on (fielding), he wasn’t very happy because he loves his fielding. It’s not because he’s a poor fielder,” Penney said, emphasizing Suryavanshi’s enthusiasm for being involved in all aspects of the game. He further added that experienced player Donovan returned to the XI after passing a fitness test following a collarbone injury, which influenced the team’s balance and selection choices.
While Suryavanshi’s absence in the field drew attention, the match itself turned into a dominant outing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ishan Kishan led the charge with a stunning 91 off 44 balls, smashing eight fours and six sixes. He was well supported by Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a quick 40, and useful contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora, helping SRH post a commanding 216/6.
In response, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 159, as pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain played key roles in breaking their momentum. Despite the defeat ending RR’s four-match winning streak, the team remains near the top of the table, while SRH moved up after securing an important victory.
Jofra Archer was the pick of the RR bowlers with figures of 2/37, but it wasn’t enough to contain SRH’s powerful batting lineup.
While the result was disappointing for Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi’s growing reputation remains intact, with his passion and performance continuing to mark him as one of the most exciting young prospects of IPL 2026.
