1. High Court Issues Notice To Giribala Singh In Twisha Sharma Death Case
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Giribala Singh in connection with the Twisha Sharma death case after Twisha’s family filed petitions seeking cancellation of her anticipatory bail.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pushed for an urgent hearing, citing concerns regarding alleged institutional bias and possible influence over the investigation. However, the High Court observed that there was currently “no need for a hurried hearing,” stating that the investigation had not been obstructed so far.
The court has now granted Giribala Singh time to submit her response and scheduled the next hearing for May 27. The case continues to attract nationwide attention as legal proceedings unfold at multiple levels, while the victim’s family continues demanding stricter judicial intervention and closer scrutiny of the investigation.
2. Viral Coimbatore Police Video Sparks Public Anger
A viral video from a police press conference in Coimbatore has triggered outrage online after officers were allegedly seen laughing while answering questions related to the murder investigation of a 10-year-old girl from Sulur.

The visuals quickly spread across social media, with many users criticising the officers’ behaviour as insensitive and inappropriate considering the seriousness of the child murder case. Several people questioned whether officials were treating the investigation with the seriousness and empathy it deserved.
At the same time, some social media users urged caution, arguing that the viral clip may have been taken out of context and that conclusions should not be drawn without viewing the complete press conference.
Police have already arrested two accused in connection with the case, while the investigation continues under intense public scrutiny and growing public demand for justice.

3. Supreme Court Raises Concerns Over NCERT Cartoons In Textbooks
The Supreme Court of India has expressed concern regarding certain cartoons included in NCERT textbooks, observing that some content may be unsuitable for impressionable schoolchildren.

The apex court directed a committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Indu Malhotra to review the material and recommend appropriate changes.
The matter emerged during hearings connected to a Class 8 Social Science chapter discussing judicial corruption. The court observed that such content could negatively affect public perception of the judiciary and undermine institutional dignity.
Following the controversy, National Council of Educational Research and Training withdrew the chapter and revised portions of the textbook. The Supreme Court also modified an earlier restriction involving three academics associated with the material, allowing them to continue academic participation while the review process continues.
The court emphasized that educational material should remain balanced, responsible, and age-appropriate while still maintaining academic integrity and constitutional values.
4. Petrol And Diesel Prices Increased Again Across India
Indian consumers are once again facing rising fuel costs after state-run oil companies announced another hike in petrol and diesel prices the fourth increase in less than two weeks.

On May 25, petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per litre while diesel prices rose by ₹2.71 per litre nationwide.
The latest fuel hike comes amid rising global crude oil prices driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East and fears of supply disruptions around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Following the latest revision, petrol prices in Delhi have crossed ₹102 per litre, while diesel prices in Mumbai are nearing the ₹100 mark.
Experts warn that continuous fuel price hikes could significantly increase transportation costs and eventually impact the prices of food, household goods, and daily essentials across the country, putting additional pressure on families and businesses.
5. Supreme Court’s Strong Remark In Twisha Sharma Hearing
During hearings related to the Twisha Sharma death case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta made a powerful observation that quickly gained national attention.
“A divorced daughter is better than a dead daughter,” he told the court while stressing the importance of prioritising a woman’s safety and well-being over social pressure surrounding marriage.
The Supreme Court, which has taken suo motu cognisance of the case, reiterated the importance of ensuring a fair and impartial investigation free from media narratives or outside influence.
Twisha’s family has repeatedly raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the initial investigation, leading the court to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for an independent inquiry.
The case continues to spark national debate around marital pressure, women’s safety, and accountability within investigative processes.
6. Delhi Faces Severe Heatwave Conditions
Residents of Delhi are preparing for another intense spell of heat after the India Meteorological Department issued a Yellow Alert warning of heatwave conditions over the next three days.

The national capital recently recorded its hottest May night in nearly 14 years, with Safdarjung registering a minimum temperature of 32.4°C — nearly 6 degrees above normal levels.
The warning comes shortly after cloudy weather and dust storms briefly brought relief from the scorching heat.
According to weather officials, daytime temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal, increasing the risk of dehydration, heatstroke, and heat-related illnesses. Authorities have advised residents to remain hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours, and take extra precautions for children, elderly individuals, and people with existing health conditions.

Twisha Sharma was cremated 12 days after her death following a second post-mortem examination ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The second autopsy was conducted by a four-member medical team from AIIMS Delhi after Twisha’s family raised concerns regarding the original post-mortem findings and investigation process.
The examination reportedly concluded on Sunday afternoon, after which Twisha’s mortal remains were taken to Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat in Bhopal for the final rites. Family members and loved ones gathered to bid an emotional farewell.
Authorities are expected to rely heavily on the fresh medical report as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue under court supervision.
