Shraddha Kapoor’s much-awaited film Eetha has got a new release date. The film, which was earlier scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 28, will now release on December 4, 2026. The postponement means the film will no longer compete at the box office with the other major releases that were lined up for the August date.
The decision comes as Eetha was initially set to arrive on the same day as Anupam Kher’s Khosla Ka Ghosla 2. Sidharth Malhotra’s Vvan was also expected to be part of the August 28 release lineup before its release was moved to September 25. With Eetha now shifting to December, the crowded August release date has become less competitive.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the new release date on Tuesday, confirming that Eetha will now reach audiences on December 4. The change is expected to give the makers more breathing room while allowing the film to find its own space at the box office.
Eetha is particularly important for Shraddha Kapoor as it sees her step into a challenging and very different role. The actor plays legendary Lavani artist Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a celebrated figure known for her contribution to Maharashtra’s traditional folk performance culture.
The film also stars Randeep Hooda and Zeeshan Ayyub in supporting roles. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha has already generated curiosity following the release of its teaser in June. Shraddha’s intense appearance and the film’s music were among the elements that attracted attention from viewers.
For Shraddha, the film marks an opportunity to explore a character rooted in Maharashtra’s cultural and artistic history. Playing a real-life personality also brings its own challenges, as the performance needs to capture not only the character’s appearance but also her personality, emotions and contribution to the art form.
The new December release could prove beneficial for the film, particularly because it avoids a direct clash with Khosla Ka Ghosla 2. Box-office clashes can often divide audience attention, especially when multiple films target similar sections of the audience. A separate release window can give each movie a better opportunity to build momentum through promotions and word of mouth.
Meanwhile, the Hindi film industry continues to see several release-date changes and box-office clashes. Among the confirmed upcoming clashes is the September 11 release of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s Haiwaan alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer. Another face-off is expected between Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol’s Batwaara 1947.
The recent release calendar has also seen Alpha and Baby Do Die Do arriving around the same period, with both films featuring female assassins at the centre of their stories.
With Eetha now moving to December 4, the makers have more time to present Shraddha Kapoor’s transformation as Vithabai to audiences. After the promising response to the teaser, fans will now have to wait a little longer to see the actor bring the legendary Lavani artist’s story to the big screen.
