Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking to stop the release of the upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. The actor has alleged that the project violates his personality rights and is indirectly based on the 1998 blackbuck hunting case associated with him.
According to legal documents, Salman has sought an interim injunction against the makers of the film, asking the court to restrain them from producing, promoting, distributing, exhibiting or releasing the project until the matter is fully heard.
The actor has filed the application in an already pending commercial suit before the Delhi High Court. The plea names producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey and others associated with the project.
Although the film reportedly does not mention Salman Khan by name, the actor’s legal team argues that the promotional material, posters and public statements made by the filmmakers make it easy for viewers to identify him as the inspiration behind the story.
The petition also refers to media reports and interviews in which the film was allegedly described as being inspired by the blackbuck hunting case and the controversy surrounding gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Salman claims that these references are being used to attract public attention and generate commercial interest by linking the project to his personal life.
The actor had earlier issued a legal notice on April 24, 2026, asking the makers to stop developing and promoting the film. However, according to the petition, promotional activities continued despite the notice, leading him to seek urgent intervention from the court.
Through the latest application, Salman Khan has requested the court to stop the release of any teaser, trailer, poster or other promotional material related to Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. He has also sought an order to halt the further production and development of the film until the legal dispute is resolved.
Meanwhile, the producer of the film has reportedly claimed that he received death threats after Salman Khan initiated legal action.
The controversy is linked to the long-running blackbuck hunting case that dates back to 1998. In the case, Salman Khan was convicted by a Rajasthan trial court in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison before being granted bail. Other actors associated with the case, including Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam, were acquitted.
The latest legal battle has once again brought the decades-old case back into the spotlight. It now remains to be seen how the Delhi High Court responds to Salman Khan’s plea and whether the release of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy will be affected.
For now, the dispute has added another chapter to one of Bollywood’s most talked-about legal controversies.
