The makers of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story have finally unveiled the first-look poster of the much-awaited biopic, giving fans their first glimpse of Rajkummar Rao as former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Released on Ganguly’s birthday, the poster pays tribute to one of the most unforgettable moments in Indian cricket history, while also sparking mixed reactions from fans on social media.

The poster recreates Ganguly’s legendary celebration at Lord’s Cricket Ground after India’s dramatic victory over England in the 2002 NatWest Series final. Rajkummar Rao is seen standing on the iconic Lord’s balcony, waving his shirt in the air with the Indian tricolour in the background, perfectly capturing the emotion and intensity of the historic moment. The celebration remains one of the defining images of Ganguly’s career and symbolises India’s fearless new attitude under his captaincy.

Rajkummar also shared the poster on Instagram Stories and wished the former cricketer on his birthday. “Happy Birthday our dearest Dada,” he wrote while sharing the first look of the film.

Soon after the poster was released, fans flooded social media with their reactions. While many praised Rajkummar’s commitment and expressed excitement about seeing him portray one of India’s greatest cricket captains, others were not convinced by his appearance. Some users felt the actor did not resemble Sourav Ganguly closely enough, while others even wondered if the poster had been created using artificial intelligence.

At the same time, many fans defended the casting, saying Rajkummar Rao is one of the finest actors of his generation and has repeatedly proved his ability to transform into different characters. Several cricket lovers also admitted that the recreated Lord’s celebration instantly brought back memories of India’s famous triumph and made them even more excited for the film.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story is backed by producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, with T-Series presenting the film. The biopic will chronicle the life and cricketing journey of Sourav Ganguly, from his rise to becoming one of India’s most successful captains to the legacy he left behind in world cricket.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on May 14, 2027, during the extended Eid holiday weekend, and is already among the most anticipated sports biopics in Indian cinema.
