From Jaipur’s royal lineage to one of fashion’s most-watched global stages, Princess Gauravi Kumari made a graceful and meaningful debut at the Met Gala 2026, paying homage to her grandmother, the legendary Maharani Gayatri Devi. Her look, designed by Prabal Gurung, seamlessly blended royal heritage with modern couture sensibilities.
The ensemble stood out for its deeply personal narrative. Rather than simply referencing her grandmother’s iconic style, Princess Gauravi’s gown incorporated an actual pink chiffon sari once belonging to Maharani Gayatri Devi. Known for her timeless elegance, Gayatri Devi popularized soft chiffon drapes and pearl accessories, both of which became defining elements of her signature royal aesthetic.
Reimagined through a contemporary lens, the sari was transformed into a structured couture gown. The fabric was sculpted to hug the body with soft gathers at the waist and hips, while the drape flowed fluidly over one shoulder. This modern reinterpretation preserved the essence of the sari while adapting it for the red carpet. Princess Gauravi Kumari, born in 1999 into the Jaipur royal family, is the daughter of Diya Kumari. Educated at Mayo College Girls’ School in Ajmer and later at New York University, she made her public debut at the prestigious Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris in 2017. Beyond fashion and public appearances, she has been actively involved in philanthropy through the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, where she serves as General Secretary. She has also co-founded the PDKF Store and collaborated with designer Anita Dongre on sustainability-focused initiatives.
