The characters of Mirzapur have become incredibly popular, and fans have missed them a lot over the years. Characters like Guddu Pandit, Bablu Pandit, Kaleen Bhaiya and Munna Bhaiya became a huge part of the show’s identity, so their return has naturally created a lot of excitement among fans.
Now, the Mirzapur film has finally been released, bringing this much-loved world back to the screen. The story feels somewhat connected to the atmosphere of Season 1, and one of the biggest highlights is the return of Munna Bhaiya. His presence brings back the same attitude and bhaukaal that made the character so memorable.
The film features several familiar faces from the Mirzapur universe, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ravi Kishan and Jitendra Kumar, along with some new actors and characters. The performances are one of the strongest aspects of the film. Almost every actor understands their character well and plays their role with confidence.
There are plenty of entertaining and enjoyable moments throughout the film. If you are a hardcore Mirzapur fan, there are several scenes that will remind you why audiences became so attached to this world in the first place.
One noticeable difference, however, is the language. Compared with the original series, the film does not use as many abusive words or extremely offensive dialogues. It feels more controlled in terms of language, which may be because of censorship and the cuts made for the theatrical release. There are also no scenes that go to the same extreme level as some moments from the series.
The writing of Mirzapur Season 1 was brilliant, and that level of writing is unfortunately not as strongly visible in the film. While the movie tries to expand the world and introduce new characters, the storytelling does not always have the same sharpness and impact that the first season had.
That said, the direction is quite good. The way the new characters are introduced is interesting, and the filmmakers have tried to blend them naturally into the existing Mirzapur universe. Several new character motivations are also introduced, giving the story a few fresh elements that were not explored earlier.
The performances, once again, deserve appreciation. The actors bring a lot of energy to their respective roles, and the familiar characters continue to carry the personality and flavour that fans expect from Mirzapur.
However, the biggest problem with the film is its length. At more than three hours, the movie feels unnecessarily long at several points. If the storyline had been trimmed and the film made shorter, it could have been much more engaging and impactful.
There are also a few characters who feel somewhat wasted because they do not get enough screen time. The film introduces several people and storylines, but not all of them receive enough space to make a strong impression.
Overall, the film makes a sincere attempt to recreate the Mirzapur experience on the big screen. It has familiar characters, strong performances, entertaining moments and plenty of references that longtime fans will enjoy. However, it does not completely match the brilliance of Season 1, especially when it comes to writing and pacing.
Still, if you are a Mirzapur fan, this is a film worth watching at least once. Seeing characters like Munna Bhaiya return and experiencing the Mirzapur world again is itself a major reason for fans to give the movie a chance.
