KL Rahul Joins Delhi Capitals Ahead of IPL 2026, Brings Kantara-Inspired Energy to Arun Jaitley Stadium
New Delhi: India batter KL Rahul has officially joined Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2026 season, bringing with him a mix of aggressive form and high expectations. DC shared a video of Rahul’s arrival at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he immediately showcased his iconic Kantara movie celebration, a move first seen during his unbeaten 93-run knock against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The celebration, which involved thumping his chest, pointing at the ground, and circling his bat on the pitch, was a statement of intent. Rahul had previously explained that the move was inspired by the 2022 Kannada film Kantara, symbolizing dominance and connection with the ground. DC captioned the video, “Ye tera ground hai, Rahul. Welcome back home.”

KL Rahul’s Form and Career So Far
Last season, Rahul was in blistering form, scoring 539 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 53.90 and a strike rate nearing 150. His tally included one century and three fifties, making him DC’s top run-scorer and the ninth-highest scorer overall in IPL 2025. He also led DC in sixes, hitting 21 maximums.
Across his IPL career, Rahul has played 145 matches, amassing 5,222 runs in 136 innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB, Punjab Kings, and now Delhi Capitals. He averages 46.21 with a strike rate of 136.02, including five centuries and 40 fifties. Rahul also won the Orange Cap in 2020 with PBKS, scoring 670 runs in 14 innings.
Aiming for Milestones
As he joins DC, Rahul will be aiming to move closer to the 6,000-run milestone, which would make him the fifth batter after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and David Warner to reach this landmark. Currently, he is seventh on the all-time IPL run-scorers list.
Delhi Capitals’ 2026 Campaign
DC will begin their IPL 2026 journey against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 1 in Lucknow. With Rahul’s aggressive approach, experience, and ability to anchor innings, Delhi Capitals hope he can inspire the team to a strong start and challenge for the title.
With his trademark mix of flair, consistency, and the Kantara-inspired swagger, KL Rahul is poised to be one of the defining players of IPL 2026.
