Actor Akhil Akkineni has finally spoken about one of the toughest phases of his life, revealing that the failure of his 2023 film Agent was followed by a serious accident that left him physically and emotionally devastated. The actor shared that the combination of the film’s poor box office performance and a painful injury forced him to take a long break from films.
Akhil is now preparing for his comeback with Lenin, directed by Murali Kishor Abburu, and says the difficult period has made him stronger.
A Freak Accident Changed Everything
During a recent interview, Akhil revealed that just a few months after Agent was released, he suffered a freak accident at home.
The actor recalled that he slipped on a wet bathroom floor and fell onto a piece of broken glass. The accident caused severe injuries to his left hand, cutting through a vein, nerve, and tendon in his ring and middle fingers.
He underwent two surgeries and received 48 stitches. Recovery was long and painful, taking nearly 16 months before he could regain full strength in his hand.
“I Had Dark Feelings”
Akhil admitted that the accident affected him not only physically but also mentally.
For several months, he was unable to work out, perform action sequences, or even return to the gym. The injury, combined with the disappointment of Agent‘s failure, pushed him into a difficult emotional phase.
The actor said he experienced moments of pain and “dark feelings” as he struggled to come to terms with everything that had happened. However, instead of giving up, he gradually channelled that frustration into motivation to prepare for his comeback.
Determined to Return Stronger
Reflecting on the challenging period, Akhil said it was a journey he had to go through. He added that the experience taught him valuable lessons and assured fans that he is determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
His focus is now entirely on moving forward and delivering better performances.
A Career Filled With Ups and Downs
Akhil made his debut as a child actor in Sisindri before appearing in a cameo in Manam. He entered the industry as a lead actor with Akhil: The Power of Jua in 2015, but the film failed at the box office.
His next films, Hello and Mr. Majnu, also struggled commercially. He finally tasted success with Most Eligible Bachelor in 2021, which became his first major hit.
However, hopes were high for Agent in 2023, but the action thriller failed to impress audiences and collected far below expectations. Following the film’s release, Akhil publicly apologised to fans and promised that he would return stronger.
Eyes on Lenin
Now, Akhil is hoping to begin a new chapter with Lenin, which is set to release in theatres on July 10. The film also stars Bhagyashri Borse and is backed by Nagarjuna Akkineni and producer Naga Vamsi.
After enduring both professional disappointment and a life-changing accident, Akhil says he is ready to leave the past behind and focus on rebuilding his career. Fans will now be watching closely to see whether Lenin marks the fresh start the actor has been waiting for.
