Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his marriage to Gauri Spratt after some sections of social media linked their relationship to the “love jihad” narrative. The actor dismissed the claims, saying religion has never played a role in his personal relationships or family life.

Speaking in an interview with veteran film journalist Subhash K. Jha, Aamir shared that his family has always embraced diversity and never viewed religion as a barrier when it comes to marriage.

“The truth is that ours is a very inclusive family,” Aamir said. “Both my sisters are married to Hindus, my daughter is also married to a Hindu, and my cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.”

The actor explained that interfaith marriages have always been a natural part of his family and that mutual respect has mattered far more than religious identity.

Addressing speculation surrounding his own marriages, Aamir clarified that none of his wives ever converted their religion.

“Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion, as we had civil marriages,” he said.

He also spoke about Gauri Spratt’s faith, pointing out that many assumptions being made online are incorrect.

“Gauri is not even Hindu; she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that,” Aamir said, adding with a touch of humour, “Life is getting more comical as time passes.”

Aamir’s remarks come amid online debates following his marriage to Gauri Spratt. The actor’s statement makes it clear that the couple chose a civil marriage and that religion was never made a condition for their relationship.

Known for keeping his personal life relatively private, Aamir has rarely responded to social media controversies. However, this time he chose to clarify the facts, emphasizing that his family’s history reflects inclusivity rather than religious divisions.

Over the years, Aamir has been married to Reena Dutta, followed by filmmaker Kiran Rao, with both marriages conducted under civil law. Despite ending their marriage, Aamir and Kiran have continued to share a cordial relationship and co-parent their son, often appearing together at family and professional events.

His latest marriage to Gauri Spratt has once again drawn public attention, but the actor has firmly rejected attempts to frame it through a religious lens. By highlighting his family’s long history of interfaith marriages, Aamir reiterated that love, mutual respect, and personal choice have always been the foundation of his relationships.

With his statement, the actor has sought to put an end to the speculation, making it clear that religion has never defined the choices made by him or his family.
