Saif Ali Khan’s first marriage to actress Amrita Singh has often been discussed over the years, but a lesser-known detail about their 1991 wedding has recently come to light. Saif’s younger sisters, Saba Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan, did not attend the wedding because they were still very young and in school at the time.

During an appearance on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s show Double Date, the sisters opened up about how they found out that their elder brother had got married. Their recollection revealed just how sudden and private Saif and Amrita’s wedding was.

Saba recalled that she was only 15 years old, while Soha was 13, when Saif married Amrita. The sisters were still attending school and said they received a call from their parents in the principal’s office.

According to Saba, they were asked not to discuss the news with anyone. She recalled that the family told them not to say anything because they were unsure about how much of the information circulating was true. However, the news had already appeared in newspapers by then.

Soha also remembered learning about the marriage from her French teacher, describing the wedding as a last-minute affair. She explained that both sisters were simply too young to be involved in what was a major family event.

The revelation surprised Neha Dhupia, who appeared intrigued by the fact that Saif’s sisters had not attended his wedding. For fans familiar with the Pataudi family, the story offers a rare glimpse into how unexpectedly Saif and Amrita’s relationship moved towards marriage.

Saif and Amrita’s Unexpected Marriage

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s relationship was one of the most talked-about Bollywood romances of the 1990s. The two reportedly met when Saif was at the beginning of his acting career, while Amrita was already an established star.

Despite their 12-year age difference and coming from very different backgrounds, the couple decided to get married in 1991. Saif was only 21 years old at the time, making the decision particularly unexpected.

Their wedding reportedly came as a surprise to several people around them. The private nature of the marriage also explains why Saif’s younger sisters were not present and instead learned about it while they were still at school.

The couple later welcomed two children, daughter Sara Ali Khan in 1995 and son Ibrahim Ali Khan in 2001. Their family life, however, eventually went through difficulties, and Saif and Amrita separated after around 13 years of marriage.

Their divorce was finalised in 2004. Following their separation, Amrita largely focused on raising Sara and Ibrahim, while Saif eventually found love again with actress Kareena Kapoor. The two married in 2012 and later welcomed sons Taimur and Jehangir.

Despite the end of their marriage, Saif has continued to maintain a relationship with his children from his first marriage. Sara has often spoken respectfully about both her parents and their individual journeys.

The Next Generation of the Family

Both Sara and Ibrahim have followed their parents into the entertainment industry. Sara made her Bollywood debut with Kedarnath in 2018 and went on to star in films such as Simmba and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.

Ibrahim also entered the acting world, making his OTT debut with Nadaaniyan before appearing in Sarzameen.

The latest revelation from Saba and Soha adds another interesting chapter to the Pataudi family’s history. Their memories show that Saif’s decision to marry Amrita was so sudden that his teenage sisters were still in school when they first heard about one of the biggest developments in their brother’s life.

What was once a relatively private family detail has now become a fascinating glimpse into the early years of Saif Ali Khan’s personal life and his unexpected first marriage to Amrita Singh.
