Actor Bhumi Pednekar has found herself at the centre of social media criticism after sharing pictures and videos from her recent visit to a Shiv temple during the holy month of Sawan. While the actress intended to share a spiritual moment with her followers, many users focused on one detail—her wearing sunglasses while offering prayers.
Bhumi took to Instagram to post photos and videos from the temple, where she was seen performing jal abhishek by offering water to the Shivling. In one picture, she stood with folded hands in prayer, while another video showed her participating in the ritual wearing a black top, blue jeans and black sunglasses.
Along with the post, Bhumi wrote, “As Sawan begins, I pray not for an easier life, but for the strength to walk it with grace. Har Har Mahadev.”

However, instead of appreciating the devotional post, many social media users questioned her choice of attire inside the temple.
Several users commented that sunglasses should have been removed before offering prayers. Others felt that dressing casually in jeans and wearing sunglasses during the ritual appeared disrespectful.
One user wrote, “You could have removed your sunglasses before praying.” Another commented, “I’ve never seen anyone wearing goggles while performing pooja.” Some even questioned whether the visit was meant for worship or a photoshoot, with comments suggesting that the focus seemed more on the pictures than the prayer itself.
Despite the criticism, Bhumi has not responded to any of the comments or addressed the controversy.
The actress has recently been in the news for using her platform to raise awareness about the devastating floods in Assam. She appealed to people to contribute to relief efforts by donating food, sanitation supplies and other essentials for families affected by the disaster.
Her appeal received appreciation from the Assam Chief Minister’s Office, which publicly thanked her for supporting the flood-hit state and helping spread awareness about the ongoing crisis.
On the professional front, Bhumi was last seen in the Prime Video crime thriller series Daldal, where she played the role of DCP Rita Ferreria, a police officer investigating a serial killer. The performance earned praise for showcasing a different side of the actress.
While Bhumi’s temple visit was meant to express faith and devotion during the auspicious month of Sawan, it has instead sparked an online debate about appropriate attire and etiquette inside places of worship, with opinions divided across social media.
