The controversy surrounding OMG 2 has taken a new turn after co-producer Ashwin Varde strongly responded to actor Paresh Rawal’s recent claim that the story and idea for the film belonged to him but he was never given proper credit.
The debate began after Paresh Rawal, in a recent interview, alleged that the concept of OMG 2 was his creation. He claimed that despite contributing the core idea, he did not receive the recognition he deserved. Interestingly, his wife, Swaroop Paresh Rawal, was credited as one of the film’s co-producers.
Reacting to these allegations, Ashwin Varde firmly denied Paresh’s version of events, calling the claims “untrue” and without any factual basis.
According to Ashwin, OMG 2 was written by director Amit Rai, who first narrated the story to him. He recalled that when he initially heard the script, he immediately noticed similarities with the original OMG and questioned Amit about it.

Ashwin said Amit Rai explained that he had intentionally written the film in a style similar to OMG because Paresh Rawal had advised him to keep the narrative close to the original. The two had previously worked together and shared a good professional relationship.
However, Ashwin said he was concerned because he believed the intellectual property rights of the OMG franchise belonged to Akshay Kumar. He claimed that when Amit Rai raised the issue with Paresh, the actor reportedly insisted that the rights belonged to him.
Ashwin alleged that this raised serious concerns for him.
“He was trying to make a version of OMG under a different name. That is unethical and unprofessional. In my opinion, it was nothing short of trying to use someone else’s creation without proper rights,” Ashwin said.
Paresh Rawal had also claimed that he had earlier approached Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn for the role that Akshay Kumar eventually played in OMG 2. Responding to this, Ashwin said both actors reportedly refused because they believed the franchise belonged to Akshay Kumar and advised Paresh to seek his approval.
Ashwin further revealed that his production company later acquired the script to ensure everything was done legally. He emphasized that the screenplay remains officially registered in Amit Rai’s name and described him as the film’s sole writer.
According to Ashwin, Paresh never asked for writing credit during any of their meetings while the film was being developed. Therefore, he believes the actor’s current claims are unfair.
He also claimed that despite not contributing creatively to the screenplay, Paresh Rawal was still given producer credit on the film. Ashwin added that Paresh chose to have the production credit assigned to his wife, Swaroop Paresh Rawal, and his business partner, Hemal Thakkar.
Ashwin further stated that Paresh was paid the agreed remuneration for his association with OMG 2, saying this important detail was missing from the actor’s recent interview.
Ending his statement on a strong note, Ashwin said that no one had tried to deny Paresh Rawal any credit or recognition. Instead, he insisted that the team only ensured the project followed the proper legal and creative process.
With both sides now presenting completely different versions of events, the dispute over the origins of OMG 2 has sparked widespread discussion within the film industry. As of now, Paresh Rawal has not publicly responded to Ashwin Varde’s latest remarks.
