Television actor Rubina Dilaik has extended her support to climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, who is continuing his indefinite hunger strike in Delhi. As Wangchuk’s health reportedly deteriorated after 17 days of fasting, Rubina shared an emotional message urging people to pay attention to his cause.

Sharing a post originally shared by veteran actor Zeenat Aman, Rubina expressed concern over Wangchuk’s condition and called him a true hero. She wrote, “He is a real hero. Don’t let him die fighting for our country’s own good.”

Rubina’s message came as concerns grew over Wangchuk’s health during the ongoing protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). According to updates shared by the organisation, Wangchuk has reportedly started losing muscle mass and is experiencing severe physical discomfort after days of fasting.

Several celebrities have spoken in support of Wangchuk and appealed for dialogue to resolve the situation.

Earlier, Zeenat Aman shared a heartfelt note on social media, urging the government to begin discussions with the activist. Highlighting Wangchuk’s deteriorating health, she wrote that society should not remain silent while one of the country’s respected minds suffers.

Zeenat appealed for a peaceful resolution and said that India has a long history of non-violent protests, adding that those in power should respond through meaningful dialogue.

Actor Omi Vaidya, best known for playing Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, also shared an emotional appeal. Referring to Aamir Khan’s character Phunsukh Wangdu, which was inspired by Wangchuk’s life, Omi said, “I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die.”

He highlighted concerns about Wangchuk’s health, saying that his blood sugar levels had dropped and requested people to understand the importance of the issue.

Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary has also shown support for Wangchuk and appealed to him to take care of his health amid the prolonged hunger strike.

Why Is Sonam Wangchuk Protesting?

Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 28, while the larger CJP agitation began earlier on June 20. The protest has been centred around demands related to alleged irregularities in the education system.

The protesters have demanded accountability from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and have also sought compensation for the families of students who allegedly lost their lives following examination-related controversies.

The CJP has announced a peaceful march towards Parliament on July 20, coinciding with the beginning of the Monsoon Session.

Growing Concern Over Wangchuk’s Health

As Wangchuk’s hunger strike enters its 17th day, supporters and public figures continue to raise concerns about his health. The calls for dialogue have grown stronger, with many urging authorities and protesters to find a peaceful solution.

Known for his innovations in education, climate solutions, and sustainable development, Sonam Wangchuk has inspired many through his work. His life also served as an inspiration for the character Phunsukh Wangdu in the popular film 3 Idiots, bringing renewed attention to his current protest.
