Actor Anupam Kher has spoken about the alleged donation embezzlement controversy at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, saying that those responsible should be identified and punished. The veteran actor made the remarks during his visit to the temple, where he arrived to seek blessings before beginning the shoot of his upcoming film, Shri Ram Bhoomi.

Speaking to the media, Anupam said that starting a film based on Lord Ram without seeking the blessings of Ram Lalla and Lord Hanuman would be incomplete. He shared that he had come to Ayodhya to pray for peace, happiness and good health for everyone before beginning the new project.

Reacting to the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of temple donations, Anupam said such incidents are unfortunate but should not diminish the sanctity or significance of the Ram Mandir. He pointed out that the temple is the result of centuries of faith and devotion, and the actions of a few individuals should not overshadow its importance.

Drawing a comparison, the actor said that if a theft takes place in a house, people do not abandon the house itself. Similarly, he believes that while the alleged wrongdoing must be dealt with strictly, it should not affect people’s faith in the temple or in Sanatan Dharma. He stressed that anyone found guilty must face legal action and be punished.

The controversy has triggered a major political debate, with authorities continuing their investigation into the alleged misuse of donation funds. Meanwhile, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust recently accepted the resignations of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra, in accordance with the trust’s constitution.

In a public statement, Champat Rai said he had remained silent on the matter while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) carried out its preliminary inquiry. He urged people not to jump to conclusions and requested that everyone wait for the final investigation report before making judgments. He also maintained that his decades of public service have always been transparent.

The SIT is currently investigating the financial trail, the handling of cash donations and jewellery, and whether proper procedures were followed in managing temple assets. Officials are expected to question trustees and others associated with the donation process as the investigation continues.

As the probe moves forward, Anupam Kher has made it clear that while accountability is essential, the alleged actions of a few individuals should not overshadow the faith and devotion associated with the Ram Mandir.
