Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s much-anticipated action thriller Alpha, the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe, has finally hit theatres and opened to a steady start at the Indian box office despite mixed audience and critic reviews.

According to early trade estimates from Sacnilk, Alpha collected around ₹4.48 crore net in India by 6 PM on its opening day. These are live figures, and the final Day 1 numbers are expected to rise as evening and night shows are accounted for.

The film released on a wide scale across 5,535 shows nationwide, ensuring strong visibility across major cities and multiplex chains.

Decent Opening Amid Competition

While Alpha has registered a decent opening, it remains far behind some of the bigger entries in the YRF Spy Universe. The previous installment, War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, had opened to a massive ₹52 crore net on Day 1, boosted by its star power and franchise scale.

However, industry observers note that Alpha is a different kind of release, marking the first time the spy universe has centered on female leads.

Close Comparison With Alia Bhatt’s Jigra

Interestingly, Alpha is already nearing the opening day numbers of Alia Bhatt’s last theatrical release Jigra (2024). That film had collected around ₹4.55 crore net on Day 1 across 5,779 shows.

With collections still being updated throughout the day, it remains to be seen whether Alpha will manage to surpass Jigra’s opening total.

About the Film

Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha features Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in leading roles, supported by Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key parts. The film also includes a special appearance by Hrithik Roshan as Kabir, a popular character from the earlier spy films.

The movie has been positioned as a major expansion of the YRF Spy Universe, introducing a fresh female-led action direction to the franchise.

As per certification details, Alpha received a UA 16+ rating from the CBFC and has a runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds.

Mixed Reviews From Critics

Early reviews describe Alpha as a technically well-made film but emotionally underwhelming. While the action and production scale have been praised, critics feel the film does not fully deliver the impact expected from a major spy universe entry.

Despite this, strong brand value and curiosity around the franchise have helped the film secure a respectable opening.

As the day progresses, all eyes are now on the final Day 1 collection to see whether Alpha can pick up momentum at the box office.
