Akshay Kumar has addressed the buzz surrounding his character in Welcome To The Jungle, where he is referred to as a “flop actor.” Speaking at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai, the Bollywood star clarified that the dialogue is part of the story and should not be seen as a personal remark about his real-life career.
The actor was asked about the use of the term in the film, especially considering the discussions it has sparked among fans. Responding with a smile, Akshay said that audiences should understand the difference between a character and the actor playing that role.
“We are not told that you have to use such dialogues as taunts. When you watch a movie, you watch it according to the character. Thank you for feeling bad about it, but don’t take it so seriously,” he said.
Akshay’s response highlighted his easy-going attitude and his belief that films should be enjoyed in the spirit they are made. He suggested that dialogues and situations in a movie are created to suit the narrative and should not be interpreted as personal comments.
In Welcome To The Jungle, Akshay plays a struggling actor who is trying to revive his career after delivering a series of unsuccessful films. His life appears to take a positive turn when he lands a new movie opposite a successful actress, played by Jacqueline Fernandez.
However, what begins as a routine film shoot quickly turns into a hilarious adventure. The story shifts to a village near the border, where the local people mistake the actors for real soldiers and expect them to protect the village from a dangerous gang led by Jackie Shroff.
The confusion leads to a series of comic situations, with Akshay’s character repeatedly insisting that he is only an actor and not a real-life action hero.
The trailer, which runs for more than four minutes, promises a mix of comedy, action and chaos, while taking the popular Welcome franchise into an entirely new setting. Unlike the earlier films, this instalment moves away from the city and unfolds against the backdrop of a jungle adventure.
Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome To The Jungle features a massive ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jackie Shroff, Johny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and several others.
Produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwala, Rakesh Dang and Vedant Vikaas Baali, the film is set to release in theatres on June 26, 2026.
With his latest statement, Akshay Kumar has made it clear that he is comfortable laughing at himself and believes that audiences should enjoy the humour without reading too much into it.
