Mudassar Aziz Defends Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Against Infidelity Backlash
Director Mudassar Aziz returns with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, a comedy flipping the classic infidelity trope by centering Ayushmann Khurrana as a devoted husband ensnared in misunderstandings with his wife (Wamiqa Gabbi), a mysterious woman (Sara Ali Khan), and a colleague (Rakul Preet Singh). The forest officer Prajapati Pandey faces town-wide rumors of philandering despite his unwavering loyalty, setting it apart from prior takes on the premise.
Crafting a Patnivrata Protagonist
Aziz deliberately crafted Prajapati as “nihaayat hi patnivrata”—an extremely wife-devoted, civilized man—to innovate on B.R. Chopra’s original and his own 2019 Kartik Aaryan version, which explored marital boredom and communication gaps. “How about we make this subject with a shareef aadmi who loves his wife very much, but comedy of errors makes the world see him as the worst philanderer?” Aziz explained, emphasizing situational humor over crude jokes.
No Promotion of Infidelity
Addressing trailer backlash accusing the film of glorifying extramarital affairs, Aziz insists it promotes nothing irresponsible. “Ayushmann and I have track records with sensitive topics like Vicky Donor and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan—we never laugh at something wrong,” he stated. In a “trigger-happy world,” Aziz trusts the story’s execution to counter critics, prioritizing comedy from circumstances, not bhadde mazaak.

Production and Ensemble Cast
Produced by T-Series Films and BR Studios, the May 15 theatrical release features Vijay Raaz, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vishal Vasistha, Guneet Singh, Durgesh Kumar, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Shireesh Kumar Sharma, and Deepika Amin. Aziz views it as a fresh quest to evolve the “Pati Patni Aur Woh” legacy while upholding social responsibility through authentic writing.
