Kedarnath Temple to Reopen on April 22, 2026, Marking Start of Char Dham Yatra

The sacred Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand is all set to reopen its gates for devotees on April 22, 2026, officially marking the beginning of the annual Char Dham Yatra. One of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage circuits in India, the reopening is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the country.

Situated in the Garhwal Himalayas, Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The shrine remains closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions, making its annual reopening a significant spiritual event for pilgrims.

With preparations in full swing, authorities have put in place extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience. These include improved crowd management systems, enhanced medical facilities, upgraded accommodation options, and coordinated security measures.

To facilitate easier access to the shrine, trekking routes have been cleared and maintained, while helicopter services are also being operated for devotees who prefer aerial travel to the temple. Officials have emphasised that safety remains the top priority given the challenging Himalayan terrain.

The Char Dham Yatra includes four major pilgrimage sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—and is considered one of the most spiritually significant journeys in Hinduism. Each year, lakhs of devotees undertake the pilgrimage seeking blessings and spiritual fulfilment.

Authorities have urged pilgrims to complete advance registration, stay updated on weather conditions, and strictly follow government guidelines to ensure a safe and orderly yatra experience.

As the doors of Kedarnath reopen, the Himalayan shrine once again becomes a centre of devotion, faith, and spiritual gathering, echoing with prayers of thousands of devotees embarking on this sacred journey.
