Box Office Clash: Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla Enters ₹100 Crore Club as Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge Continues Historic Run
The box office is witnessing an intriguing contrast between a fresh entrant and a record-breaking juggernaut. On one hand, Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla has made a strong start, crossing the ₹100 crore mark globally within just four days. On the other, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues its dominant theatrical run well into its fifth week, setting new benchmarks for Indian cinema.
Bhooth Bangla Crosses ₹100 Crore Worldwide
Despite mixed reviews, Bhooth Bangla has managed to outperform early expectations. On its first Monday, the film collected ₹6.75 crore across 10,984 shows in India, reflecting a steady hold after its opening weekend.
This brings its total India net collection to ₹64.75 crore, while the India gross stands at ₹77.34 crore. Overseas, the film added ₹2.50 crore on Day 4, taking its international total to ₹29.00 crore. With these numbers combined, the worldwide gross collection has reached ₹106.34 crore—an impressive milestone achieved within just four days of release.
The film’s momentum was aided by paid previews, which contributed ₹3.75 crore even before its official release. Interestingly, the makers opted to delay the release by a week, acknowledging the massive box office pull of Dhurandhar 2.
A Reunion and a Star-Studded Cast
Bhooth Bangla also marks the much-awaited reunion of Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Priyadarshan after 14 years—a collaboration that has historically delivered popular comedies.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, and veteran actor Asrani. Backed by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Cape of Good Films, the film blends horror and comedy in a style reminiscent of classic Bollywood entertainers.
Dhurandhar 2 Holds Strong in Week Five
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues to rewrite box office history. On Day 33, the film collected ₹1.62 crore net across 3,672 shows—its lowest single-day total so far, yet still significant given its extended run.
The film’s India gross now stands at ₹1,337.46 crore, with a net total of ₹1,117.29 crore. Overseas collections have reached ₹421.50 crore, pushing its worldwide gross to a staggering ₹1,758.96 crore.
These numbers not only highlight its sustained popularity but also cement its place among the biggest Indian blockbusters of all time.
A Record-Breaking Franchise
With its latest installment, the Dhurandhar franchise has crossed a combined ₹3,000 crore globally, becoming the first Indian film series to achieve this milestone. For comparison, major franchises like Baahubali and Pushpa trail behind in total cumulative earnings.
Another remarkable feat: Dhurandhar 2 has achieved these numbers without significant contributions from Gulf countries or China—markets that traditionally boost global box office figures for Indian films.
The film stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, all reprising their roles and contributing to the film’s massive appeal since its release on March 19.
The Big Picture
While Bhooth Bangla has made a promising start and entered the ₹100 crore club swiftly, it faces stiff competition from the enduring dominance of Dhurandhar 2. The contrast between a rising performer and a historic blockbuster underscores the dynamic nature of the box office.
As the weeks unfold, all eyes will be on whether Bhooth Bangla can sustain its momentum and how far Dhurandhar 2 can push the boundaries of box office success.
