Heavy rainfall has triggered severe waterlogging across Guwahati, bringing normal life to a standstill in several parts of the city. Key residential and commercial areas such as Hatigaon and Anil Nagar have been among the worst affected, with streets submerged and traffic movement severely disrupted.

Continuous downpours overwhelmed the city’s drainage infrastructure, leading to widespread flooding on major roads. Visuals from affected areas show vehicles stranded in stagnant water and commuters wading through knee-deep flooding as traffic came to a near halt in many pockets of the city.

The situation has caused significant inconvenience to residents, many of whom faced difficulties reaching workplaces and essential services. Local transport was also impacted, with several routes either partially or completely inaccessible due to accumulated rainwater.

In view of the worsening conditions, authorities ordered the closure of all schools under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. Officials stated that the decision was taken in response to rising water levels and unsafe commuting conditions.

Emergency response teams and civic authorities are actively monitoring the situation and working to manage waterlogging in critical areas. Efforts are underway to improve drainage flow and restore normal traffic movement as soon as possible.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones. Authorities have also urged people to stay updated with official advisories as urban flooding continues to affect daily life in the city.

With more rain forecast in some areas, the situation remains under close watch, and further preventive measures may be taken depending on weather conditions.
