Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen Shah, has accepted an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an official visit to India, marking what is expected to be his first major diplomatic engagement since assuming office.
According to officials from both sides, preparations are currently underway to finalise the dates, itinerary, and agenda of the visit. The proposed trip is being viewed as an important step in strengthening bilateral ties between Nepal and India, particularly in areas of trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
Balen Shah’s visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, which share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. Discussions are likely to include infrastructure development, energy collaboration, and cross-border connectivity projects that have been central to India-Nepal relations in recent years.
Officials noted that the visit carries symbolic significance as well, given Balen Shah’s growing popularity as a youth-driven political figure in Nepal. His engagement with Indian leadership is being closely watched in diplomatic circles as a signal of continuity and potential renewal in bilateral relations.
The invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlights India’s ongoing emphasis on maintaining strong neighbourhood diplomacy under its “Neighbourhood First” policy. Nepal remains a key partner in this framework, with both countries regularly engaging at high political and strategic levels.
While the final schedule is yet to be announced, the visit is expected to take place after consultations between diplomatic teams from both nations. More details are likely to emerge in the coming weeks as preparations progress.
