Irfan Pathan’s Post on Vaibhav Suryavanshi After First-Ball Duck Sparks Debate
A social media post by former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has triggered a fresh debate around young Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the 15-year-old suffered a rare first-ball duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026.
Suryavanshi, who has been one of the standout performers of the season and currently holds the Orange Cap, came into the match on the back of explosive innings against some of the biggest names in world cricket, including Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Deepak Chahar. However, his momentum was halted dramatically when he was dismissed for a golden duck by relatively lesser-known SRH bowler Praful Hinge.
The dismissal came on the very first ball Suryavanshi faced. Attempting an aggressive stroke over cow corner, he ended up sending the ball straight into the hands of the fielder, marking an unexpected end to his innings. The early breakthrough set the tone for SRH’s dominant start, with RR collapsing to 1/3 inside the opening over.
Following the match, Irfan Pathan referenced the incident in connection with an earlier post he had shared on X on April 10, where he questioned whether Suryavanshi tends to target higher-profile bowlers more aggressively. After the youngster had previously dominated world-class attacks, his dismissal against Hinge has been cited by Pathan as supporting his “theory,” sparking widespread discussion online.

The debate intensified as fans and analysts weighed in with differing opinions. While some agreed that the teenager’s fearless approach might vary depending on the opposition, others argued that his aggressive batting style remains consistent regardless of the bowler.
The match itself saw a dream outing for Praful Hinge, who made an instant impact in his IPL debut. Signed by SRH for ₹30 lakh in the auction, the bowler delivered a sensational opening over, dismissing Suryavanshi, followed by another wicket two balls later when Dhruv Jurel was trapped for a duck. He capped off his dream spell by removing South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius, leaving Rajasthan Royals reeling early in their innings.
The rapid collapse saw RR under pressure immediately, as SRH capitalized on the momentum shift in a dramatic opening spell that stunned fans and analysts alike.
While Suryavanshi’s dismissal became the talking point, his overall form in IPL 2026 continues to keep him among the most closely watched young talents in the tournament, ensuring that both praise and scrutiny will follow him closely in the matches ahead.
