Rajpal Yadav Reveals Misunderstanding That Cost Him Role in ‘Om Shanti Om’
Actor Rajpal Yadav has opened up about a long-standing misunderstanding in Bollywood that reportedly cost him a role in the blockbuster film Om Shanti Om. The actor shared that he was unaware a part had been specifically written for him, and it was mistakenly believed that he had turned it down.
Rajpal Yadav, who is currently preparing for his upcoming project Bhooth Bangla, said the confusion led to him missing out on the opportunity. According to him, the misunderstanding came to light much later when he was informed on another set that superstar Shah Rukh Khan believed he had declined the role.
He also revealed that he was initially considered for the film Billu, a role that eventually went to the late actor Irrfan Khan. Rajpal said the confusion stemmed from miscommunication within the industry, where incorrect information was passed along, leading to assumptions that he had refused the project.
Recalling the incident, Rajpal shared that even he and his manager were unaware that the role in Om Shanti Om had been offered to him. He explained that misinformation circulated, leading to the belief that he had turned it down due to lack of time. “Unhe bhi pata nahi tha. Aur mujhe bhi nahi pata tha,” he said, adding that false narratives and miscommunication often create such situations in the film industry.
He further remarked that someone had misrepresented his situation, leading to confusion during the casting process. Despite the setback, Rajpal Yadav emphasized that misunderstandings like these are not uncommon in Bollywood, where communication gaps can sometimes lead to missed opportunities.
The actor also confirmed that he later met Shah Rukh Khan and clarified the misunderstanding, stating that there was no ill feeling between them and that everything remains cordial.
