“Two Options”: Hardik Pandya Delivers Stern Dressing Room Message After MI’s Third Straight Defeat

Mumbai — Skipper Hardik Pandya addressed a visibly shaken Mumbai Indians squad following their third consecutive defeat in the IPL 2026 season, urging players to either retreat into isolation and reflect or unite and fight back as a group.

The Mumbai Indians suffered another heavy setback against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, where they failed to chase a massive 241-run target. Despite a strong effort from Sherfane Rutherford, who played a lone fighting knock, MI fell short by 18 runs as RCB’s top order led by Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar dominated proceedings.

In a tense post-match dressing room interaction, Hardik echoed head coach Mahela Jayawardene’s earlier message, stressing the need for clarity, accountability, and collective responsibility within the squad.

“Thinking from what MJ said, I think here there are two options we can do. One is go back in our rooms, go back into our cocoon spaces and try to figure it out… or come together and embrace the setbacks together,” Hardik told the team.

He further emphasized that the team must move forward collectively rather than dwell on repeated setbacks. “Let’s not disappear, but let’s learn. It’s always winning and learning, never losing,” he added, encouraging players to regroup over a team meal and discuss solutions both on and off the field.

The message came after another disappointing performance from MI’s bowling unit, which has struggled to contain opposition batting line-ups throughout the season. With three losses on the trot, concerns are mounting over both execution and strategy.

After the match, Hardik also expressed frustration over MI’s bowling inconsistencies and inability to control games early. He admitted the team had been constantly “playing catch-up” in matches rather than dictating terms.

“I think we conceded way too many runs. That was always going to be catch-up. In the last couple of games, as a bowling unit or even as a batting unit, we’ve been quite catching up rather than leading the game,” he said.

He added that the team may need to rethink certain tactical decisions, including their approach to batting and bowling combinations depending on pitch conditions.

“We really need to reflect… maybe we need to see what other options we have as a batting group or bowling group,” Hardik said, indicating that changes could be on the horizon as MI look to arrest their slide.

With pressure mounting early in the season, Mumbai Indians now face a crucial phase where response, unity, and tactical adjustments could determine the trajectory of their campaign.
