Anjum Chopra Backs RCB to Defend IPL Title, Calls Them “Most Organised Team” After Strong Start to 2026 Season
Former India cricketer Anjum Chopra has thrown her weight behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), backing the reigning champions to successfully defend their Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Chopra praised RCB’s structure, consistency, and momentum, describing them as the “most organised team” in the competition at present.
RCB, who ended their long wait for a maiden IPL trophy in 2025 by defeating Punjab Kings in a thrilling six-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, have carried their winning form into the 2026 season. The title triumph marked a historic moment for the franchise, ending an 18-year drought and establishing them as champions for the first time.
“RCB can definitely do it”: Anjum Chopra
Speaking to ANI, Chopra stressed that defending champions often set the tone for the next season by continuing from where they left off, and RCB appear to be doing exactly that.
“Yes, they can definitely do it. Mumbai has done it, Chennai has done it, RCB can also do it… the team that consistently plays well will reach the playoffs. All the teams reaching the playoffs start from the blocks exactly where they left off,” she said.
She further highlighted that while new champions can always emerge in a competitive league like the IPL, RCB remain strong contenders to retain their crown.
“Most organised team in the competition”
Chopra was particularly impressed with RCB’s early-season performances, noting their balance and discipline across departments. According to her, the defending champions have not only maintained their momentum but have looked even more refined this year.
“RCB is looking good, they are looking like the most organised team because they are the defending champions. They started from where they left off last season. In fact, they are even looking better this season,” she added.
RCB have begun the 2026 IPL season strongly, winning both of their opening matches and currently sitting third on the points table with four points and an impressive net run rate of 2.501.
Punjab Kings also praised for strong start
Chopra also acknowledged Punjab Kings (PBKS) for their steady performances, noting that their run to the 2025 final has given them valuable experience and confidence heading into the new season.
“Punjab is also looking very good. They also played the final last year, so they know where it ended and from where to start again. They have also started well,” she said.
PBKS have begun the 2026 campaign on a positive note as well, winning two of their three matches and occupying second place on the points table with five points.
Early signs of a competitive season
With both RCB and PBKS showing strong early form, the 2026 IPL season is shaping up to be highly competitive. While RCB carry the confidence of defending champions, Punjab Kings and other franchises remain close challengers in what promises to be another tightly contested race for the title.
For now, though, Anjum Chopra’s endorsement adds further belief to RCB’s growing momentum as they aim to establish a new era of dominance in the IPL.
