MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis Nearing Return: A Boost for Struggling CSK in IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are on the verge of receiving a much-needed boost as both MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis edge closer to full fitness ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, according to a report by The Indian Express.

The veteran wicket-keeper batter, who has led CSK to five IPL titles, has been sidelined with a calf strain and missed the first three matches of the season. While Dhoni has been actively participating in training sessions, he did not travel with the team due to protocols. Videos circulating online show Dhoni batting in the nets, but the franchise has emphasized that his return will not be rushed, prioritizing full recovery before taking the field.

South African youngster Dewald Brevis, who has also been absent due to a side strain, has not played any matches this season. Brevis did travel with the team to Bengaluru for the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but he was not included in the playing XI.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Brevis is nearing full recovery and could feature against Delhi Capitals. “We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days between the next match. We have been conservative and hopefully, these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go. It’s a big loss, but we are looking forward to getting him back,” Fleming said following CSK’s defeat to RCB.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also shared an optimistic update on Dhoni’s return, stating, “He is on track. He is getting there slowly, slowly. He is eager to play. But you know it takes time sometimes. It will be soon.”

The return of Dhoni and Brevis comes at a crucial time for CSK, who currently sit at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table after losing their first three matches. The inclusion of the experienced Dhoni alongside the explosive Brevis could provide the team with both stability and firepower as they look to turn their campaign around.

With just five days to prepare for the next clash, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if CSK can regain momentum and climb up the points table.
