Fakhar Zaman Denies Ball-Tampering Charge in Pakistan Super League Clash
Karachi/Lahore, March 30, 2026 – Sunday’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings became the center of a major controversy after star batter Fakhar Zaman was accused of tampering with the ball in the final over of Karachi’s chase.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, occurred moments before on-field umpire Faisal Afridi noticed unusual behavior. Video footage showed Fakhar in discussion with teammates Haris Rauf and skipper Shaheen Afridi. The umpire intervened, confiscated the ball, and determined it had been tampered with. As per the rules, Karachi Kings were awarded a five-run penalty, and a new ball was introduced for the final over.
Despite the controversy, Karachi successfully chased down the target, with all-rounder Abbas Afridi sealing the win with a four and six in the final deliveries.
PCB Confirms Level 3 Charge
Following the match, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Fakhar has been charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The charge is in accordance with Article 41.3 of the PSL 11 playing conditions, which prohibits any action that alters the condition of the ball.
The PCB statement read:
“Lahore Qalandars’ Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a Level 3 Offence under Article 2.14 of the applicable Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Fakhar denied the charge levelled against him during a disciplinary hearing led by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama. Another hearing is set to take place within the next 48 hours, after which the Match Referee will share his verdict.”
Implications for Fakhar and Lahore Qalandars
If the ball-tampering allegation is upheld, Fakhar Zaman could face severe penalties, and the team itself may also be subject to sanctions under PSL regulations. For now, the veteran batter has firmly denied all wrongdoing and awaits the match referee’s final decision.
The incident has reignited debates around ball-tampering in cricket, with fans and analysts closely scrutinizing the evidence and discussing the potential repercussions for the Qalandars in the ongoing PSL season.
