“Dhurandhar 2” Prompts Rare 15-Minute Intermission in Canadian Theatres

The four-hour-long Dhurandhar 2 has achieved a rare feat in Canadian cinema, prompting theatres to break their long-standing no-interval rule. A fan from Canada shared her excitement on Instagram after experiencing the unexpected break during the epic film.

Canadian Fans Witness a Rare Interval

The fan wrote in her caption:
“Unlike movie theaters in India, @cineplexmovies doesn’t normally have an intermission. But Dhurandhar 2 changed that!!! Many people mentioned wanting an intermission for bathroom breaks, etc., after the first movie. Cineplex delivered!! There was a 15-minute intermission due to the long runtime.”

She added that it was a surprising and joyful experience:
“This may sound small, but we couldn’t believe our eyes, hahaha. I’ve never seen this happen—or even heard of it happening—at a Cineplex in my 20+ years of living in Canada. We were all cheering!! Small joys.”

In a postscript, the fan also shared historical insight, noting that Cineplex used to offer intermissions for long films in the 1990s before discontinuing the practice.

Internet Reacts to the Rare Break

The unusual intermission has sparked a wave of reactions online. Some viewers echoed their delight:

  • “I just came back from Cineplex, and I didn’t get an intermission/interval! But it doesn’t matter because it was completely worth it!”
  • “They did it for Dhurandhar Part 1 too.”

Others pointed out that intervals are increasingly appearing in Canada following the growing popularity of long South Indian films:

  • “There were intervals in Pushpa 2 and Kantara as well.”

Box Office Success

Alongside its cultural impact, Dhurandhar 2 continues to perform spectacularly at the box office. Within six days of its release, the film has crossed ₹575 crore in India and earned ₹231.57 crore overseas, bringing its total worldwide gross to ₹919 crore.

Released in December 2025, the first installment of Dhurandhar emerged as the year’s highest-grossing film and the top earner in a single language. The sequel features returning stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, reprising their iconic roles.

A Global Phenomenon

The intermission in Canada underscores how Indian films, particularly long-format South Indian blockbusters, are influencing global theatrical experiences. Fans are celebrating not only the film itself but also the small joys of traditions like intermissions, which give viewers a chance to stretch, refresh, and prepare for the next chapter in the story.
