Actress Rashmika Mandanna has opened up about the online trolling she has faced over her South Indian accent in Hindi films. The actress, who has built a career across multiple film industries, made it clear that she does not see her accent as a weakness and believes it is unreasonable to expect her to speak without the influence of her roots.

During her appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9 alongside her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika spoke about the criticism she has received throughout her career. From comments about her acting and performances to questions about her language and dialogue delivery, the actress said she has often found herself being trolled for one reason or another.

However, Rashmika explained that she never wanted criticism to limit her ambitions. Instead of restricting herself to one film industry or language, she wanted to explore different opportunities and challenge herself as an actor.

She revealed that she had made a conscious decision early in her career to work across industries and learn to communicate in different languages. For her, the opportunity to perform in films with diverse stories and characters is more important than worrying about what people might say online.

Rashmika Mandanna Says Her South Indian Accent Is Nothing to Be Ashamed Of

Rashmika’s Hindi dialogue delivery has frequently become a topic of discussion on social media. Some viewers have criticised her accent in Hindi films, with similar conversations emerging around her performances in projects such as Animal, Chhaava and Sikandar. The debate also resurfaced following the release of Thamma in 2025 and Cocktail 2 in 2026.

Addressing the criticism, Rashmika questioned why her South Indian accent should be considered a problem in the first place. She pointed out that she comes from South India, so naturally, her speech may reflect her linguistic background.

The actress said she had never felt the need to become defensive about her accent simply because people highlighted it. According to her, expecting someone from South India to speak without any regional influence is unreasonable.

Her response reflects her belief that an actor should be judged on their performance and the effort they put into a role rather than being constantly criticised for the way they speak. Rashmika’s comments also highlight the challenges faced by performers who work across different linguistic film industries.

Why Rashmika Mandanna Wants to Dub for Her Own Films

Apart from addressing the trolling, Rashmika also spoke about the hard work involved in dubbing for her films in different languages. She explained that she is comfortable with the idea of another dubbing artist lending their voice to a character if the director believes it would be more suitable.

However, she revealed that her directors have generally preferred that she dub for herself. The actress considers this an achievement because dubbing requires considerable effort, particularly when working in languages beyond one’s mother tongue.

Rashmika said she gives her directors the freedom to make the final decision and does not take it personally if they feel another voice would work better. At the same time, she takes pride in being able to dub for her own characters across languages.

For her, the process is not just about delivering dialogue but also about understanding the character, matching the emotions and ensuring that the performance feels authentic to the audience.

Rashmika Mandanna on Playing Different Characters in Animal and The Girlfriend

Rashmika also spoke about the satisfaction she gets from playing contrasting characters. She highlighted the difference between Animal and The Girlfriend, explaining that being part of films with such different stories allows her to explore a wider range of emotions and personalities.

The actress said that this variety was something she had wanted from the beginning of her career. Rather than limiting herself to a particular type of role, she wanted to demonstrate her versatility and take on challenging characters.

Her approach reflects her ambition to grow as a performer while working across industries and languages. For Rashmika, being able to move between very different cinematic worlds is one of the most rewarding aspects of her profession.

Rashmika Mandanna’s Upcoming Projects

Rashmika continues to remain active across Hindi and South Indian cinema. She was recently seen in Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2 and has reunited with Vijay Deverakonda for the period action drama Ranabaali.

Her upcoming projects also include Mysaa, a female-led action-adventure film, and Raaka, Atlee’s science-fiction fantasy starring Allu Arjun, which is expected to move into production in 2027.

With several projects across different genres and industries, Rashmika is continuing to expand her presence in Indian cinema. Her latest comments make one thing clear: she does not want online criticism about her accent to stand in the way of her ambitions.

For the actress, being from South India is a part of who she is, and she sees no reason to apologise for it while continuing to explore new languages, characters and opportunities.
