Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets Sights on IPL 2026 Trophy and Record-Breaking Feats
Young Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has revealed his ambitious goals ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, aiming not only to help the Rajasthan Royals (RR) win the trophy but also to chase individual records.
Speaking at the BCCI Naman Awards in New Delhi, where the India Under-19 men’s cricket team was honoured for their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 triumph, the 14-year-old prodigy expressed his determination to contribute maximally to his team’s success.
“The goal is to win the trophy for the team this season. If we win the trophy, it will benefit the entire franchise as well as my own performance. My aim is to contribute as much as I can to help the team lift the trophy,” Sooryavanshi said in a video shared by Star Sports on Instagram.
Record-Breaking Young Star
Sooryavanshi’s rise to prominence has been meteoric. He was the Player of the Match in the U-19 World Cup final against England, scoring a sensational 175 runs off 80 balls, including 15 fours and six sixes, reaching his century in just 55 balls one of the fastest centuries in U-19 World Cup history — to guide India to its sixth U-19 World Cup title.
In the IPL, he has already made history as the youngest player ever, debuting at just 14 years and 23 days, and went on to hit a record fastest century in IPL history in just 35 balls against Gujarat Giants in the 2025 season, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s record. During the IPL mega auction ahead of the 2025 season, he was signed by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore, making him the youngest IPL player ever.
Ambitions Beyond Team Success
When asked about personal milestones, Sooryavanshi made his intentions clear: he aims to break Chris Gayle’s record for the highest individual score in IPL history.
“Sir, wahi 175 ka record todne ka (I want to break the 175-run record),” he said.
Journey to Rajasthan Royals
Hailing from Samastipur, Bihar, Sooryavanshi credited the Rajasthan Royals scouting team for tracking his progress over domestic and Under-19 matches.
“When I made my domestic debut, RR had been keeping an eye on me during my domestic and Under-19 games. Their scouting team had been keeping an eye on me for a long time. I felt that I could go to RR because my trial with them had gone very well,” he said.
Reflecting on his growth with the franchise, he added, “I am happy to be with RR, as I have improved a lot too in my life while playing for them.”
Looking Ahead
With IPL 2026 around the corner, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is not only focused on team success but also on carving his name into cricket history with record-breaking performances. His blend of youthful energy, fearless batting, and hunger for records makes him one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket today.
