Sanju Samson Recalls Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Fearless Chat with Rahul Dravid Before IPL Debut
Sanju Samson recently recalled a memorable conversation between young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and legendary coach Rahul Dravid ahead of the teenager’s debut in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
Sooryavanshi, who was signed by Rajasthan Royals for ₹11 crore, created history in 2025 when he became the youngest-ever IPL debutant during a match against Lucknow Super Giants. The young batter quickly grabbed attention for his fearless approach and attacking style at the crease.
His aggressive mindset later played a key role in India’s triumph at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2026. In the final against the England Under-19 cricket team in Harare, Sooryavanshi delivered a sensational performance, smashing a record-breaking 175 runs off just 80 balls.
Conversation with Rahul Dravid
During the BCCI Naman Awards, Sooryavanshi shared the stage with Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya. When asked about the memorable six he hit on his IPL debut, the youngster began narrating the moment before Samson stepped in to reveal the full story.
Samson recalled that just before the match, Dravid wanted to have a conversation with the young batter to guide him about handling the pressure of playing in the IPL at such a young age.
“I was actually there in the meeting,” Samson said. “Rahul Sir called him into the room and told me, ‘Sanju, we need to talk to him. He’s a very young kid; we have to explain how to go about it.’”
However, Sooryavanshi’s response showed the fearless attitude that has defined his rise in cricket. Instead of appearing nervous, the youngster displayed confidence and eagerness to express himself on the big stage.

Since his debut, Sooryavanshi has continued to impress with his aggressive batting style and composure under pressure. His remarkable performances have made him one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket.
